hi all, does anybody hear abt a lgwr bringing instace down?
i think pmon takes care of the background processes, can we manually do something abt the above mentioned problem?

Hi,
LGWR is an 'essential' process ,which means , if it gets terminated for any reason, the instance crashes.
did you confirm this(ie LGWR terminating) by looking into the alert.log and LGWR trace file ? The trace files should give you a better idea why this is happening(it could be due to I/O problems or Oracle kernel bugs etc)
You might want to check Metalink for possible bugs related to this. I know there were some bugs in 7.3 that terminated LGWR abruptly ,crashing the instance.
