Hi, we have a sun solaris system to put 9ias and we're in the process of upgrading 6.0 forms to 9i web forms. I'm not the original person who did installation, but now I have to make this work. First of all, we have two oracle_home for 9i as. I wonder if it's necessary. The services are not same. one has BC4J, Clickstream Collector, http server, internet directory, OC4J_DAS, OC4J_Demos, OC4J_home, single sign-on:orasso:7780, and web cache; the other has BC4J, Clickstream Collector, forms, http server, OC4J_BI_Forms, OC4J_Demos, OC4J_home, OC4J_Portal, OC4J_Wireless, Portal:portal:7778, reports, single sign-on:orasso:7780, web cache and Wireless. I need to start form service. Since it's greyed out, I don't know which one is necessary for form service to run. I refered to the administrator guide, my case didn't really follow what it said. For example, OC4J_DAS started without OC4J_home's up. The form service is still available when OC4J_DAS is down. Also, the listener port 1521 was down from time to time. Not sure why that happened. Where is the log file? Can someone give me an idea? Thanks,

Sa

for every installation, u need a new oracle home.
i beleive, there are two installations of IAS in ur case.
one for infrastructure (http, oid ,sso etc) and
other for j2eee/BI/forms ( overlapped with components for infrastructure.)

so decide your infrastructure ( for iasdb, oid, sso etc)
start the iasdb, it listener, then oid etc.
always use gsdctl to start/stop the services ( http,oc4j etc) or use emwebsite ( which ofcourse is more easy.. first start the emwebsite using emctl).
start the OC* and B* compoents
start forms.
