Hi,
How do I find out if a database is running in 'shared' or 'dedicated' mode? I'm running oracle 9i databases.
Thanks

A Database server can support both dedicated and Shared servers and its upto the client to request Shared connection(via SERVER=SHARED in its tns connect string).
By default the listener spawns a dedicated Server process. If your database is not configured for shared servers and if you request a shared connection, the listener gives you a dedicated connection.
You can query v$mts , V$shared_server, v$dispatcher ,v$parameter ( for mts_servers, mts_max_servers ,mts_dispatchers etc) to find out if your database is configured for shared servers.
