When I try to connect as system

Error msg is:

ORA-01034 ORACLE not available
ORA-27101 Shared memory data realm does not exist
SVR4 Error: 2: Not Such file or directory.

SEt your ORACLE_SID right and Pls start the instance.

system, by default, can not connect to a db that is shutdown.

you need to connect as the superuser , sys as sysdba (8i or 9i) or internal (8i & before), to startup the datbase.

once the database is started, then system will be able to connect
