If Larry were to fire the person in Support "working" on a TAR I opened three weeks ago, I wouldn't complain. Some of those people are brilliant, others are a waste of space. It isn't so much their technical ability as their attitude. Was I that bad? I hope not.

Unfortunately, as you know John, these days companies sacrifice experience in an effort to minimise costs.

If one pays peanuts...

I thought it was just me. Last 12-18 months support has gone downhill so hard. I've escalated more SRs to account management in the last 3 months than I have the rest of my career combined.

Useless doesn't come close.

Although the reactive team/ACS and a few front liners (so few I know by name) are very good guys.

In fact I had a Sev1 that went 14 days without a response.

I always have to preface comments with "I'm sure things have changed since I was there, but...."

Back in my day, a P1 TAR that wasn't being worked on went up the management line really fast, theory was it would reach Larry in a couple of days. 14 days is atrocious. Mind you, "priority 1" TARs were often abused by customers. The idea of P1 was that we would work on it continuously, and the customer was expected to be available too. Sometimes you would get a P1 TAR, and at the end the bloke would say "...and by the way, I'm going home now" which made one think "well, stuff you! Clearly not so urgent after all".

I've also been wondering if Support has degraded in the last year or so. I used to think that the response centre in Bucharest was excellent and tried to time raising TARs to get them assigned there, but that doesn't seem to work any more. Perhaps its been closed down.

To be honest it was the account managers that tell us to raise Sev 1's, they can be non 24*7 now, largely because they other sevs were not really going anywhere.

It's definitely going downhill, why just the other day we had an SR about losing both control files (a RCA SR to check config, for reasons I'll not digress into here but ask if you're interested), and support asked if we'd tried restating the database!

The typical Larry "Hire & Fire" continues.

I recently spoke to my ex-colleagues in Oracle, and most of the Engineers in India are not affected. Their US counterparts were laid off in huge numbers, and few positions got opened here. My ex-manager who left Oracle after a few months I left, joined back Oracle two months back.

By the way, after a long period of issues we are going to migrate our on-prem databases to Cloud@Customer from next week. It's a two year delay from Oracle though. Their team really struggled to get it to work before the contact ends soon. Many org restructuring hampered their projects.

The on-call 24x7 support teams in India reduced to half the team size in last few months. And new positions were opened for very less experienced candidates. Cost cutting is fine for the organization, but it should not be at this cost. Those who have been retained have not got their hikes in last 2-3 years. It might be different case for different products, but usually the Global business units which were bought by Oracle, are really never cared much. I worked for their product team and I have experienced it.
