I want to upgrade from Oracle 9i single instance(simple with no cluster environment) to 11g RAC.
Which is the best way to upgrade ?
Is it possible to upgrade directly from 9i one instance to 11g RAC ?
Or should I follow the path
Upgrade 9i single instance to 11g single instance. Then migrate 11g single instance to 11g RAC as they are on the same version.
or any other best solution ?

Also, can I run Fusion Middleware 12c pointing to database 11g ?

Welcome to the forum. Please read the OraFAQ Forum Guide and How to use code tags and make your code easier to read

This is a huge topic, and there must be more to it. For example, I would think that you will be changing hardware and operating system too.
It may be beyond the scope of a forum to ask for advice on this (you may need to hire a consultant) but if you can describe the project in full, including description of the source and target environments, perhaps it will be possible to assist.

Thanks for the response.
There are 2 upgrades in our customers site both needed upgrade 9i single instance to 11g RAC.
There is replication between 2 environments using goldengate
First one:
Source - OS : HP-UX , Forms 6i
Target - OS:Linux(RHEL), Fusion Middleware

Second one :
Source - OS : Windows 2000, Forms 6i
Target - OS : Linux(RHEL), Fusion Middleware

Fusion Middleware 12c will require a minimum database version requirement of 11.2.0.4 for the repository, but Forms 12c can connect to any version 11g database.

Holy smoke. That is a big job. I really don't think that I can give any meaningful advice other than "hire a consultant who knows what he is doing". If the company I work for were doing this, we might put several people on it: a Shit-hot DBA (aka me) plus an ace developer type to sort out the application upgrades (6i to 12.x may be a big leap) plus an SA to deal with the OS and hardware hassles (you will have them) plus a PM to run the project and bring in extra resources (which will be needed). Are you sure that you are up to this?
