Whats the Difference between Oracle 8i and 9i?
Which one should be preferred?

If you are new to Oracle, I would recommend that you jump directly to Oracle 9i, since it is easier to manage, i.e. automatic space, temp, undo and SGA management makes DBA life easier, especially for novice users.
The only reason to go back to Oracle 8i, which is also very decent database comparing to competition, would be if it is required by the application. In that case, application developer will say to you that it is not certified with Oracle 9i, or Oracle 8i is prerequisite.

Take a look at the Oracle 9i New Features - Click Here

All these features doesn't exists in Oracle 8i. Of course "the latest is the greates" . So - Oracle 9i would be your choice.
