We have switched from AIX to CentOS5 years ago without any problems, and are on CentOS7 now.
Technically I don't see any difference between Oracle/RHEL/CentOS, the only question really is do you want to be able to call someone in case of a problem, and who you you want to call.

We recently moved from OEL to RHEL, and there isn't any major difference in how Oracle RDBMS works with either of the distribution. There were very minor tweaks(primarily for RAC) we had to do in our build scripts, but those were more related to our business standards, than the OS itself. OEL had been our OS platform for a long time. Of course, the cost of support is different between OEL and RHEL, and probably that's why we moved to the latter. In any case, you will need to test and certify your database and application on the new OS for all your supported configurations.
Another good thing about RHEL is, I can deploy Docker containers on it for free as CE version is available for CentOS, and easy to use the CentOS repo in RHEL. While it is not available for OEL, you need to have Docker EE version for OEL distribution.
So, rather than the technical differences, you need to think on the cost of support to decide between OEL and RHEL.
