I am working on the conversion of our databases from 8.1.7 to 9.2.0.

I want to know the difference in the use of SELECT_CATALOG_ROLE and SELECT ANY DICTIONARY. With Oracle8i, the SELECT_CATALOG_ROLE worked fine, specially when certain users needed to use the OEM.

Now with 9i, SELECT ANY DICTIONARY is recommended (as per the upgrade Doc).

I did some small testing and with either one of the priviledges, I could navigate the Dictionary tables and OEM.

Any suggestions ?? Which is a better practice to do ?

Thanx.

i beleive
SELECT_CATALOG_ROLE provides access to all SYS views only.
SELECT ANY DICTIONARY system privilege provides access to SYS schema objects only.
