hello

we have a 7 gig db and are purchasing a new server.
the new server will be created with the exact same
environment as the old server. NT4 Server OS
what is the fastest way to move db to new server
without having to do export/import(can take 3 days).

What about backup/restore?

thanks in advance

if the new server is setup exactly the same way (same filesystems etc), you should be able to just shutdown the original db, copy across all the files onto the new server, keeping them in the same filesystem locations obviously, and start it up.

update your listener config with any new ip info etc, and make sure your db_links etc still work ok, but you shouldn't have any problems.

good luck!

The easiest one and the fastest is to clone the source db to the target machine. You can clone from both cold and backups. The both methods are described here:

Hope that helps,
