Hello Friends,
I am using oracle 11gR2 database. Now i need to get some data on regular basis from MS SQL Server 2008 database which is on different hardware. I have some questions regarding "Oracle Database Gateway for ODBC".
1. Should i need additional license of "Oracle Database Gateway for ODBC", even though i have a license of oracle database.
2. Where should i install "Oracle Database Gateway for ODBC"?
option 1 : On that hardware where oracle 11g database is running, where i need data of ms sql server 2008 or
option 2 : On that hardware where MS SQL Server 2008 is running?
Your reply would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Chintan

No license needed.
You can install the gateway on any computer that is on the same network as both the Oracle and non-oracle servers. I have multiple oracle databases on multiple servers, each with db links to multiple MSSQL databases on multiple servers. I installed one gateway on one server, and that is my switchboard for all inter-database communications.
I wrote an article explaining the overall architecture that, given your questions, should really help you get your head around the basic framework. You can read it here
