Did anyone have problem running Oracle 8.1.7 database on Windows 2000 servers. There were no error when installation, all the steps went fine. Created 2 instance running on that servers. Applied the patch 8.1.7.4. Each database has less than 10 users. But the instance service terminated unexpectedly once a while. Sometime happens on both instances , sometiime just crash one. It crashed while no user on it. Nothing log to alert.log, no trace fiel generated. Just a message in event viewer "OracleSevice<SID> service terminated unexpectedly"
Then reinstall with Oracle 8.1.6, everything fine and stable. Is there a bug with 8.1.7 and windows 2000?

i use 8.1.7 on many win2K boxes, and no problems have been reported, i bet your problem comes from the windows itself (sp3 or not ?) or from some old registry related to 8.1.6.
any way, the only times i saw such crashes was when :
- the pc starts a standby/hibernation (very rare)
- some other silly processes (antivirus/backup robots) start locking oracle datafiles.
- some mates joking (hey this was just to be a bit funny :P)
