i had installed toad in the C:\Quest Software and also installed oracle instant client in the C:\instantclient_12_1. now i had created two environment variable ORACLE_HOME and TNS_ADMIN. but still it is showing "No Oracle clients installed in your system" and when i open (...) it is showing "you have no oracle homes installed on your system".

Did you add instant client's directory into the PATH environment variable?

If you installed TOAD into a directory whose name contains spaces, try to uninstall it and put it into a directory whose name does NOT contain spaces.

I prefer full client over instant client. Why? Because it contains many features (such as SQL*Loader, data pump utilities etc.) that instant client doesn't have. I once thought that I don't need all of that, but - finally, I paid a higher price (measured in nerves I lost) by installing this and installing that, instead of doing it all at once. As a matter of fact, installing an Express database Edition might be a good choice as well - you have it for testing purposes, it doesn't take much space on your computer and provides mostly everything you'd ever need from Oracle.
