I am Oracle developer, I have installed Oracle on my home windows 7 machine
When I try to connect I get following error

I did some troubleshooting based on my online research.
C:\windows\system32>sqlplus

I got this error therefore couldn't get connected, please help
This problem just keeps repeating, is there a way prevent this from happening.
In the past the resolution has been between fixing the problem to re-installing Oracle

I have 64 bit operating system. When I open command prompt as a administrator it shows up with that prompt. I was trying some troubleshooting by invoking sqlplus as administrator at the OS level.
Oracle and windows are both 64 bits

I interpret above to indicate hardware disk corruption.
Are there any additional clues in Windows System log file?
