Hi

I know Instance means SGA+Background processes!

When do we use multiple instances on a same database? Please provide an example...

Raj,
An instance is a seperate database - ( not considering OPS or RAC ). An oracle_home can have more than one instances, each instance should have it's own SID ( in the same machine ) you cannot have two instances with the same sid running in the same machine.
