I thought I'd start a topic of 12.1.0.2 new features that look well cool, in the hope that someone will check them out and write them up. I'ld love to do it myself, but I'm a bit busy right now.
The first is one Ross spotted yesterday, In-Memory Column Store
Then one I really want to investigate ASAP is Zone Maps They sound to me like an Exadata storage index. If that functionality has been brought to non-Exadata environments, the performance boost should be astronomical.
Anyone seen anything else they fancy?

Well, I've just built my first 12.1.0.2 database, tried to create my first zone map (woo-hoo! I do really exciting things on a Sunday afternoon!) and look at the error I hit -[oracle@db12102 u01]$
[oracle@db12102 u01]$ oerr ora 31969
31969, 00000, "ZONEMAP not supported for table stored in tablespace of this storage type"
// *Cause: An attempt was made to define ZONEMAP on a table stored in
// non-Oracle Exadata storage.
// *Action: Create this table in a tablespace residing on Oracle Exadata
// storage and then define a ZONEMAP on it.
[oracle@db12102 u01]$
so goodbye to that idea. Thank you, Larry.
