I want to increase the size of SORT_AREA_SIZE, it is currently at 64k but when I try to increase it we start getting ora-3232 errors.

I have read elsewhere that there is a correlation between the SORT_AREA_SIZE and the extent size of the temp tablespace, is this true? what's the relationship.

What are some of you using for a SORT_AREA_SIZE? does it match your temp ts extent size?

Mike, can you post the exact message? along with your oracle version?
becuase there different flavours of ORA-03232

Exact error:

ERROR:
ORA-03232: unable to allocate an extent of 17 blocks from tablespace 3
