How do I upgrade my Oracle instance from 11.2.0.1 to 11.2.0.3? I go to this patch set and download all necessary files. When I open up the "database" folder from the patch download it's another setup.exe? Is the only way to upgrade Oracle instance is to create a whole new instance? I am told I need to upgrade my instance to 11.2.0.3 in order to download another patch that allows me to fix the IE 1024bit encryption ssl error message when trying to connect to OEM with IE. Sorry, I am new to Oracle so I have never done this before. Appreciate the help.

Welcome to the forum. Please read our OraFAQ Forum Guide and please read How to use [code] tags and make your code easier to read

When you downloaded the patchset, you will have noticed a link called Readme. This contains some instructions, with more links to relevant documentation.
The method is to install the new software, and then create a new instance running off this new software. THen you can upgrade the database.

Certainly read the readme included in the patchset/patch bundle.
For windows it is
read readme
,installing the software to a new oracle home
, shutdown the instance in the old home
, copy config files to new home
, startup instance in new home with certain startup options
(more details in readme)
,post upgrade steps

I did an in-bound install using the setup.exe from the patch download. Good news is that I it to upgrade to 11.2.0.3! Bad news is now my OEM is broken. OEM topic is here.
