I can't even log on to oracle as sys or system user. It displays message 'Oracle not available'.
Here is my alert log. Please examin and tell me what to do because I am not a master in Oracle8. This is of two days. First Oct 19 and second Oct 11. Start is the same on both days but at the end both differes.

(From here, the difference begins. Following is the error on Oct 19.)

(And following is the last successful log on to Oracle on Oct 11.)

Here is what the docs are saying:

ORA-01115 IO error reading block from file string (block # string)

Cause: The device on which the file resides is probably off line.

Action: Restore access to the device, then retry the operation.

And the file of question is C:ORANTDATABASELOG4ORCL.ORA

Check what is going on with this file - is't there, can you copy it or read it, is it corrupted?

I can open this file in notepad but it is in coded language.
Secondly I viewed some error messages in :
Component Services > Event Viewer (local) > Application. These are as below.

First....

Event Type: Error

I tried to open CTL1ORCL.ORA but both notepad and wordpad refused to open it. I think it is control file. Please let me know if it helps.
