According to Wikipedia, the population of the Greater Tokyo Area is (rounded, as of 2007) 36 million. According to www.statisticsbrain.com, Justin Bieber has 47 million Facebook fans, making him equal to 1.3 Tokyos. Good to know that he is still only a small country (using MC's definition of "small"). But if you UNION ALL his Facebook fans with his Twitter followers (another 28 mill) he is 2 Tokyos, which would take him up a level (to a medium sized country, perhaps). It can only be hoped that a UNION would reduce this figure substantially.

One wonders why there are 242 countries in the population list but 249 in the area list.
That aside, Googling for the average surface area of humans, I found 180000 cm2:

I can't vouch for its accuracy. Assuming it is reasonably close, that would come to 0.0000018 km2. I can't say whether Bieber or Gaga would be the smaller of the two. Generally I'd assume the woman, but the Bieb is pretty puny. Whichever is the case, the two definitely come in at 250 and 251, take your pick as to the order.
Assuming a population of just the Facebook numbers, Gaganistan would come at number 24 by population and Bieberbia would hit 30 (after bumping down the countries previously at 24-28).
If we were to rank countries by Gross Domestic Product, I imagine the two would also rank reasonably high on the list.

So my country is not so small as I feel it looking at a map of the world. 
We have another indicator, created by http://www.globeco.fr/ (not accessible when I wrote this post but the page is in Google cache): the IBM (Indice du Bonheur Mondial, World Happiness Index), inspired by the GNH and HDI.
You can see a detailed description of this indicator there (I attach the file in case you can't reach the site).
You can see a summary of the 2010 ranking there (from 2008 figures; the index is published every year (in Feb iirc) built from the statistics of year-2). I Google translated the page, fixing some errors in it and in the translation (note the link in this site is wrong, it is globeco.fr and not globaleco.fr):

Once all the data compiled, the WHI country ranking is calculated. France goes in two years from the 15th to the 11th place, eight places have been won in the field "peace and security", five in "freedom, democracy, human rights" and three in "research, training, information, communication, culture."
Why USA are 22nd? Experiencing "major armed conflicts", they are crippled by a system of unequal health, the death penalty or the rate of violent deaths. These figures do not take into account the economic crisis that will appear in the next ranking in 2011.

Perhaps a letter should go to ANSI, proposing that the "Tokyo" be adopted as the SI unit for country size, expressed in terms of happy female teenagers per square centimeter.
LF is wrong about me in 1975: wasn't interested in cars or dogs then. I think that was the summer I saw both Hair and the Rocky Horror Show (on stage of course, not those dreadful movies), which was when I became interested in girls and enlightenment.
