Hi!
This is the first time I use this system of asking for help...
I have installed Oracle 8i Enterprise edition.
I also have installed Oracle Designer 6i
It's been some weeks since the last time I had access to the database, the last time I used it everything was fine.
Today I wanted to use the designer and this message appeared... what do I have to do?
Message
-------
ORA-01034: ORACLE not available

Oracle was not started up. Possible causes include the following:
- The SGA requires more space than was allocated for it.
- The operating-system variable pointing to the instance is
improperly defined.

Refer to accompanying messages for possible causes and correct
the problem mentioned in the other messages.
If Oracle has been initialized, then on some operating systems,
verify that Oracle was linked correctly. See the platform
specific Oracle documentation.

Hi,
I assume you are running database on the same machine as designer. Anyway, your database is not started. You should be able to start it by going into Start->Settings->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services . Find Oracle, right click, pick Start.
That should do it.

Hi Radek,
I have the database started,
This is other message that I get when I try to open the SQL Plus:
ERROR:
ORA-07034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist.
What can I do with this?
Thank you for your answers,
Cynthia
