Here's how it looks like for me: I'm opening OraFAQ forum - an empty page opens. Then I press F5 (refresh) once, twice - here it is, the page opens. I don't know whether it has anything to do with the issue, but - have a look at the screenshot I took while the blank page was on (but a moment before it opened):
[EDIT] I did insert the image into the message body, but - I can't see it. We have had that problem some time ago but Frank Naude fixed it. What might be the problem now?
So, just in case you can't see the image, it says "Downloading data from pagead2.googlesyndication.com". It is the ad at the top of the page, I suppose. Maybe that site experiences difficulties at that time of day?
[EDIT 2] Huh? I can see the image now. Strange ...

Spot on Barbara! Increasing the max_connections didn't help and I really don't want to shut down the site for backups. I'm currently experimenting with mysqdump options --quick and --single-transaction. Let's see how it goes today.
