Hi

Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with Matthew Morris and Oracle Certification Prep Series. I am a noob trying to get into Oracle DB world.

I bought 3 books from Oracle Certification Prep Series and wish to write my opinion because on Amazon are no reviews.

All 3 books are excellent and helped me very much studying. You notice that the author has lots of experience.

I wish to thank the author very much for such great study resource. Because independent self study resource for Oracle are very rare (not as popular as Microsoft certs)

I have 2 questions:
1/ How do they help you?
2/ Do they allow you to learn Oracle not just prepare certifications?

Regards
Michel

Michel:

I can't answer #1 since I obviously can't be objective. However, I'll field #2. The guides are focused entirely on preparing for the exams. They're intended to cover the specific topics and information most likely to be on the test the guide is for. I don't want anyone to purchase them with the impression that they cover information in depth. They are very much like Cliff Notes.

If you are going to take a quiz on Moby Dick -- the best thing to do is read the novel cover to cover. However, if you do this, when taking the test, it might ask a question about some symbolism in the story that you missed. Alternately, you might just read the Cliff's Notes to prepare for the quiz. However, the exam may well ask questions in more depth than what the Notes cover. Reading the book and reading the Cliff's Notes gives you the best chance of being able to answer any question that is asked. The intent of the series is to provide this type of preparation for Oracle certification exams.
