I need to mount the database in EXCLUSIVE...to changet the character set...

how do i do it ?...also how do i come out of it once iam done...

any help is appreciated....

ALTER DATABASE db1 CHARACTER SET UTF8;
ALTER DATABASE db1 NATIONAL CHARACTER SET UTF8;
Or whatever you need.

I am not sure that you need to be in restricted access mode, but here is the syntax.
ALTER SYSTEM
ENABLE RESTRICTED SESSION;
ALTER SYSTEM DISABLE RESTRICTED SESSION:

Tested this on 8.1.7 / Win 2K.
