Is there anyone here that can help me? I am having trouble connecting to oracle forms 4.5, I keep getting an "Ora-12203:TNS:unable to connect to destination" eror message. I am able to connect using sql plus or other similar application so there is no problem with my tnsnames.ora file.

What should I do?

Note that every Oracle product contains its own TNSNAMES.ORA file. Therefore, if you entered database alias into TNSNAMES.ORA that is used by SQL*Plus, you should have done the same with the TNSNAMES.ORA which is used by Forms. Maybe you even did that, previously, but something has changed. In order to avoid similar problems, I'd suggest you to use TNS_ADMIN environment variable (have a look here).

Here's what Oracle says:
Oracle
ORA-12203: TNS:unable to connect to destination

Cause: Invalid address specified or destination is not listening. This error can also occur because of underlying network or network transport problems.

Action: Verify that the net service name you entered was correct. Verify that the ADDRESS portion of the connect descriptor which corresponds to the net service name is correct. Ensure that the destination process (for example the listener) is running at the remote node.


If that's not the issue, I guess you'll say so and we'll try to investigate further.

there is no problem on that part, like i said i am able to connect to sqlplus and the tnsping. any other reason?

If you search your hard disk for TNSNAMES.ORA files, how many of them do you have?

sqlplus and tnsping are using a different oracle_home, hence a different tnsnames.ora. Address what littlefoot is telling you.
