I have heard many conflicting opinions on the pros and cons of running in archivelog mode.

Pros??

Cons??

Please advise your thoughts.

Thanks

Pros
- no data lost

Cons
- having one more thing to backup
- more I/O to archive the redo logs
- another background process running (CPU & RAM)

For productions DB - 100% ARCHIVEDLOG MODE. No doubt.

Hope that helps,

In Archivelog Mode:

You can take hot backups.
No chance of loosing data.
Ideal for 24x7 shops.
Point In time Recovery Possible.
Archivelogs backup have to be done.

In NoArchiveLog Mode:

You have to take cold backups daily.
No hot backup possible..not ideal for 24x7 shop.
No Point In time Recovery.
Chance of Loosing Data in event of a crash
(But this can be prevented in certain cases)
