platform:Rh linux7.2
version:oracle817
I installed oracle9i on /opt/oracle9i/u01($ORACLE_HOME),now I don't need oracle9i and wnat to install oracle8i.
so I delete the files and directories of oracle9i, create directory and reset oracle variable for oracle8i.
but when I run ./runInstall,the following hint display:platform:rh linux7.2
version:oracle817
You do not have permission to write to the inventory /opt/oracle9i/oraInventory. Installation cannot continue.: Permission denied.
In fact,the /opt/oracle9i directory does't not exist.
After I restart the system and retry, the same result occure.
Would you give me some advice.
Regards.

Hi,
I don't know about Linux, but there is another file called oraInst.loc which contain the location of Oracle Inventory. In Unix environment it is located in /var/opt/oracle or /etc/oracle directory. You have to remove above file and try to install again.
Hope this helps!
Cheers!
