I have Oracle8.1.7 on Solaris8(Intel) and need to save russian characters in varchar and display it properly.
Clients are on Win2k.
How to properly set NLS_LANG and install language-package.

Hello, I a not too familar with the Russian code set, but you can try this:
For a single session:
alter session set nls_language=RUSSIAN
or in your init.ora file type in: NLS_LANGUAGE=RUSSIAN
I believe the above will work. Though, I know it is more complicated than this when you get into SORTS and what not.
Give it a try nonetheless.
