Do nothing.

Most probably you don't know enough to do "something", so - ask seniors what to do (I guess you'll read documentation, a lot of documentation).

Learn your new environment.
Ask for and read all documentation: processes, norms, tools to use...
Start working with a senior.

Dear Freind ,

Check with your senior DBA following points .
1) What backup procedure they are following.
2) What is the retention Period .
3) How they are managing the security .
4) Who are all the users who is hitting the database.
5) When is the peak time for the database .
6) Whether we are generating the stats on the database {If Yes can i get a previous month copy }
Just to impress .{ha ha ha ha always remeber In this world you can sell yourself if you advertise well }

Hi all,

My first experience as dba is know nothing, just a few basic knowledge from university.
A previous DBA had moved to another company and just my own struggle against the More Than 300 of the hundreds of user sessions.
Fortunately there is a Metalink / Oracle support that guided me (I even make the SR to the question "may I restart the server?").

The point is learning constant, and confident even though you're alone.

Start with read... read... and read... and then lot of practice.

Or their first impression of you is "what an idiot".
Why on earth would you be interested in the retention period of backups if you don't even have a clue about what type of databases, applications, data, etc they have?
First day is standard: be modest, don't try to be a wise guy.
