Can you please tel me the role of a core DBA in application upgradation.

things need to be taken care by a database administrator before and after the application upgradation. thanks in advance

What is "core DBA"?

As per Indian Terminology They devide DBA task into two 1) Core DBA
2) APPS DBA

Core DBA manages only the data base and related objects within the DB and are also responsible for applying new DB related patches. Apps DBA will also has similar responsibilities but with little more extensions. In Apps, Apps DBAs are also responsible for creating cutom tables in DB (the process is little different in Apps) and applying Apps patches along with the DB pathces and so on.

In general they will also manage Apache server, forms server and reports server also.

DBA will handle entire database administration and maintenance.
ORACLE APPS DBA will be able to do the functionalities of DBA and including administration of oracle applications.

Run the Upgradation scripts maintain DB in healthy way. Wink

In fact it depends on each and every organisation terms and policies and the roles given to you right now.

And so my question, the terms of core DBA and app DBA depend on each entreprise.
OP's question cannot be answered without a clear and precise definition of each one of these DBA roles.

So who is responsible for the database patches? Looks to me like they can both apply them. Sounds like fun..
