There are always pros and cons. This question might have been asked a zillion times. But still, which one is better? Being an Oracle DBA or an Apps DBA? I mean money-wise, too. If somebody could do both, and loved to do both, what should he do?

Who gets paid more? A guy with a designation "Oracle Apps DBA" or "Oracle DBA"? (Assuming both have similar qualifications and number of years of experience...)

What gets paid more is a guy with both designation "Oracle DBA & Apps DBA".
Do not restrict your skills on your resume. Wink
Now I think (from a small statistics on my colleagues and friends) that Apps DBA is often more paid because it is closer to the application user but his job is less interesting (patch and patch and patch).

Choosing a career based only (or mainly) on how much it pays is something you will regret in the long run.
Choose a career that you think will be fun.
Besides, if you choose to be a DBA, just for the money, chances are that you will be a crappy DBA (because your heart is not in it), earning less than you could make as a good developer.
