I'm seeing a few SRs with comments such as "fixed in 12.1". But I'm wondering if it will be called 12g. My guess is that "g" will last only for two major release, 10g and 11g, just as "i" was only 8i and 9i. So what might it be called? 12f (for "fusion")? Or 12c (for "cloud")?

The 10g thing was - I think - forced by the previous coining of 10i by Oracle Applications.

Any reason other than gut feel to suggest it's time for a change?

That is an April Fool's joke. Note the date and "expensive option."

All we know about Oracle database 12g (just keep the "g" for "green", or make it 12e for "eco") is:

1. The CBO will be edible???

Jokes aside, apparently SAP is already testing their suite against Oracle 12, so it may be closer than what some expect.

Lots of laughs, course the "Expensive option" describes Oracle from the get go and they should keep that just for honesty's sake. As for 12c, if you look closely that is 12c Grid, or cloud control, not the rdbms. Looks like too much fluff, again, and not enough substance. Oh Bother!!

According to this press release, we now know that the next DB release will be Oracle 12c and that it's due out in early 2013!
