Hi,

Can somebody clarify my doubts on TOAD and SQL developer ?


Can toad be connected to oracle server without Tnsnames.ora file and oracle software installed ?

Can SQL developer be connected to oracle server without Tnsnames.ora file and oracle software installed ?

1) Yes, with TOAD, you can use "Connect Direct", but you do need the Oracle client installed

2) Yes, the same with SQL developer

Are you sure that SQL Developer needs the Oracle client software? I thought it uses jdbc, so there is no need for an OCI

Definitely doesnt, loads of guys in my place have it but not many have client.
