Install Oracle E-Business Suite new error [message #467808]

I am trying to install Oracle E-business suite on Mandriva Linux but I get :-
RW-00000 Unable to write to the following directory. Please check for the permissions. Unable to Create context file at /tmp/07221428/davidpc_VIS_db_xml.

Any ideas?

Hi,

this is after you passed the pre-install checks? Can your oracle user (the one you entered as owner of the RDBMS tier) create and execute files in /tmp?

What is the umask of that user?

This was before I passed the preinstall checks.

The umask of the oracle user is 0002

Ok. should be sufficient. Can you su to the oracle user and create a file in /tmp ?
Make sure that you can create it and read it back.

Yes I can - I created a file test and I can see it as the oracle and applmgr user.

Ok. The error doesn't make much sense then.

Did you clean up everything after the previous install? (Assuming this is a second try?)
Can you upload the last part of the installation log? And can you try to make /tmp world-writable? (777)

Hi,

could be a space issue, even though I wouldn't expect it on /tmp. Can you do a df -k? Is /tmp a separate file-system.

To remove everything from the previous install remove everything under the BASE (you set this in rapidwiz), also remove the oraInventory directory, and oraInst.loc file.

I don't see /tmp as a separate filesystem. But I assume it's under the root, and has enough space.

/media/disk/ definitely has enough space. Just to make sure, can you do a
df -k /tmp

Your logfile is strangely short. Can you confirm it is your installActions* file from the oraInventory?

Finally, can you upload your cfg file. If you want to, with sensitive data masked.

I now get a different error (no idea why) -

RW-20019: No install actions have been found for this machine. Continue on to other uninstalled machines in your configuration, or fix the configuration file to correctly call out this machine.

Hi,

The RW-20019, is usually because of a typo in the machine or domain name. Doublecheck both of them.

Actually I am still having the RW20019 error how can I check the domain name ?

Thanks a lot for all the help - I would have given up by now otherwise.

The RW20019 seems temporarily to have gone away. I can not find my cfg file. Has it got a longer name?
The install seems to have got stuck so I can check the paths.

I will bang my head against the wall again tomorrow night- hopefully I will get this fixed soon.

From your hosts file, your server is davidpc, in domain david.
However, it would be a good idea to assign another IP-address. Since 127.0.0.1 is localhost. So it will probably give you a headache later.

Assign the IP-address, make sure you have a fully qualified hostname like davidpc.david (server.domain).

The installer should tell you where it wrote the cfg file. Did you check there?

it depends on your network setup. I assume you have either a router or a multi-pc modem, so the router or modem will define the possible range for your IP-addresses.

Common address ranges are 192.168.0.x or 138.0.0.x

So what changed between the times it working, and when it doesn't?

I don't understand why it goes /tmp when I am running it from a disk - could this be causing the problem? If so how can I change it?

Hi,

I'm still unable to see your config. From the logfile, the fact that it refers to /tmp as source directory and the fact that there is a space in the hostname in the second half of the logfile, something is wrong in the configuration that rapidwiz wants to install.

I tried to get a mandriva installation, but didn't succeed. So we'll have to depend on your installation.
Please look for the config_<CONTEXT>.txt file again, so we can see if the config is complete and valid.

I don't think the installation is getting far enough to create a config file. Using find / -name *config* -print does not find it.

Could the problem be my domain name
