Hello,
the main principle of Data Guard Configuration is to set it up using separate Servers for Primary DB and Standby DB site.
DB_name ist same on both db servers
DB_unique_name is different on primary than on standby
Data and log Directories can be configured to be the same,in this case, you would save yourself some Admin work, and avoid using db_file_name_convert and log_file_name_convert. Be sure, you configure your disks with the same name on both servers. This is also true for log_archive_dest
the IP address must be different, since you have two different server on the network. The two servers should be able to communicate with each other
You need to configure the tnsnames.ora on each server. The connect string is used to transfer the archived redolog files from primary server to standby server.
EG. on Primary server:
ARC_TRANSFER=........ (HOST=standby server)(port=port number of listening process)..
on Standby Server:
ARC_TRANSFER=........ (HOST=primary server)(port=port number of listening process)..
Please consider going through the steps to setup dataguard (e.g. physical standby) from Oracle 10g/11g documentation.
all the steps you need to setup primary and standby are documented.
good luck
regards
sahba
