Hello,

Can somebody help me in understanding the difference between a user and schema on Oracle.
By difference, I do not mean what is a user and what is a schema.
I understand that if we create a user, the schema gets created by default for that user. Does that mean that we cannot create a user/schema alone.

What if I just want to create a user and grant him some read access on an existing schema or just want to create a schema.

Please help.

Except in rare and advanced cases (see Oracle Entreprise User) they are the same.

But how can I create a user without creating a schema ?? and vice versa.

Thats what I want to know.. Is it IMPOSSIBLE to create a user without creating the corresponding schema ??
and similarly creating a schema without a creating a user for it ??

Yes (but on the very specific and advanced cases).
