Help!!! Convert 9i.dmp file to a 10g dmp file [message #399669]

Help please I am at a loss.

Ive been give the task of trying to determine how to convert an oracle 9i.dmp into an oracle 10g.dmp file.

Can anyone help?

I don't believe you can.
What you should be able to do is import the contents of the 9i dump into a 10g database using the 9i imp executable.

You can also import the 9i dumpfile using the 10g imp executable. They are compatible in that direction.

thanks guys...I know I can import a 9i into a 10g.

Ok so if ive imported the 9i.dmp into the 10g and perform an export from the 10g, will the file now be a 10g file or will it keep the 9i format?

Ive got to come up with an automatic way of converting 9i dmp files to 10g dmp files. and therefore 10g to any future versions our client's may take up.

any ideas? is the above import of 9i to 10g then export viable?

The format of the file is determined by the version of exp you use. You can use 9i exp against a 10g db - in which case you get a 9i dump file, and obviously if you use the 10g exp you'll get a 10g dump file.

Why do you think you need to convert a 9i .dmp file to 10g?

If would say just lie and say you did it. There is no difference. 10g can read a 9i or 10g .dmp file. Now, if you want to convert it to 10g so that 9i cannot read it, then that's another story.
