I installed oracle 10g(10.2.0.1.0)standard edition patched to 10.2.0.3.0 on two servers (production and disaster)
As i was later informed Data Guard (application Server guard works only with enterprise edition).
Is there a way that through standard edition i could set disaster to work as production in cases of failover??and how could that be done??only with sql scripting or is there another way too??

Take a look at Dbvisit (www.dbvisit.com). This is an alternative to Data Guard but works for Oracle Standard Edition, Standard One and XE.
Has all the features of Data Guard including Graceful Switchover, failover, multiple standby databases, reporting standby databases and supports Oracle RAC, but is much simpler to use. There is a free 30 day trial. New version 5.2 will even automatically create the standby database.
