Hello,
We are experiencing this bizarre and re-occuring issue that is having a severe impact on our users.
Specs:
Windows 2003 SP2
4 GB RAm ( with /3gb and /PAE switch )
oracle 9.2.0.8
Pga_target = 1gb
sga_max = 2.5gb
The problem is that nothing is produced prior in the alert.log o and no core dump is created when the database service just halts in the event viewer and DB crashes.
My question is why is it crashing this way without leaving any traces , is it memory related as per those specs?
Has anyone ever had this prob?
Oracle support is pointing to a Windows problem and if my allocated memory for Oracle would be too high, i would get mem errors in alert correct ?
I am not receiving any ora-4030 errors either and nothing external from the application.
any help would be much appreciated
thx
John

My SGA params are:
Shared Pool 320 MB
Buffer Cache 720 MB
Large Pool 256 MB
Java Pool * 24 MB
Other (MB) 19
Total SGA (MB) 1339 MB
max_SGA 2.5 GB
Would my problem be that the max_sga is reached for whatever reason and therefore the server is left with nothing. So bringing the max down to 2gb would leave more ram for the server ? is this a possibility ?

Hi gentlebabu...
That's exactly what happens, the windows OracleService for the database just stops and crashes in the event viewer.
No errors are shown in alert or any core dumps created.
I am trying to prove if my SGA and PGA are too high which is causing wndows to react this way.
I'm assuming it's the OS that is killing the process as strange as it may seem as no Oracle logs are produced.
Oracle support are pointing to the OS's fault.
thx
