Did you check the "Copy value from item" property? Would creating a form in a master-detail manner do any good? (relationship would then be on the "hiredate" item)

"Copy value from item" property can be found in item's Property Palette window, under the "Data" node. Click that property and press "F1" which will open Help for this property.

When you finish reading on this property, navigate to the "Search" tab of the Forms Help and type "master-detail" into the search field; several topics will be offered - read through them to get familiar with the master-detail relationship.

This should give you an idea. If you still need some help, do come back.

Move it to a <Null> canvas or set its "visible" property to "No"; you can manipulate with this item programatically (populate it with a value), but end user will not see it.
