In our production environment, we are having a peculiar problem. We are getting ORA 04030 error for the last couple of days. We have the back end programming in Pro*c. We get this error only when we try to perform a particular transaction, irrespective of the size of the data involved in the transaction. We increased the SGA, PGA, shutdown the server to free up the memory but still we could not solve this problem. If anyone has a solution for this, they are welcome to share with us. I shall appreciate their help. Since this is a production environment, we are lagging behind a lot. Thanks in advance.

Hi Sitarama,
not knowing which OS-System and Oracle Version you are using try this.
1) Check for a subsequent error, Eg: ORA 7324, to see where memory is being allocated.(alert<sid>.log)
2) Check user memory limits and swap space. If these are too low you may get the above error.
Eg: 'limit' or 'ulimit -a' on Unix.
3) It may help to reduce <Parameter:SORT_AREA_SIZE> if this is large.
If you are using a unix-system maybe you have to increase kernelparameter for session memory and rebuild kernel.
Hope it gives you a hind.
