I've been doing RDDBS development in Visual FoxPro for the last three years and I'm looking to cross over into Oracle development. I've been teaching myself Oracle with online courses and the "Oracle 8 Bible." There don't seem to be too many schools or universities in the Detroit area teaching Oracle.

My problem is the "you can't get a job without experience/where do you get experience without a job" syndrome. This is compounded by the fact that I can't seem to find my way past the job recruiters. I've tried internet postings, classifieds, etc. and it seems that all the postings are through a recruiting company.

I found my way to DOUG-MI and MOUG user group sites; however, there don't seem to be any networking possibilities there either. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to reach potential employers and/or where to find the best training in Oracle?
