I am a third year student. I am running Oracle 8.1.5.0.0 personal edition in windows 98 and I have the java JDK1.2.2. My problems is that I get a GPF when trying to connect to the oracle database. Because I am running it in a single machine I don't know what the name of the host is and when I try to tnsping 127.0.0.1 it says TNS-12541 TNS: no listener. I am bit confuse by all this host, sid and port business. I have use JDBC with SYBASE database and all you need is the database name, user id, user password. Could anyone clarify how could I connect to the database in my computer? I can connect to the database using SQL+.

Thanks in advance
