As of myself, now I know what the "EDI" acronym means, but I still have no idea what it really is. What is YOUR knowledge about the Electronic Data Interchange system? How complex is it? What have you done so far?

Your question seems to be far too wide; if you had a question about solving a specific problem while designing the EDI system, I guess you'd get the answer. Expecting someone to develop software for you is ... well, doubtful.

While I don't have any specific answer to your question, becuase your question is VERY lacking in detail, I would suggest the oracle forms is the wrong tool for almost any EDI process.
If want get data from system in A into system B you probably want to be looking at stuff like sqlloader, external tables and database packages.

There is many way to do EDI, but it always depend of what you need.
Here is the solution we developped here. All our application containing the data are on Oracle 10g. So we have some package to generate the transaction and the data to submit or to receive from EDI.
We are putting message in AQ table and JAVA application is reading from this AQ table. Our EDI application is running on Weblogic Server using Java Interface to manage our connectivity with the different customer that are doing EDI with us. We are doing EDI using FTP and SMTP and it was more easy to do it in JAVA.

This is only 1 way to do it but there is many different way to achieve it. But it will depend of what you exactly need and what are the spec of your application
