when i start my machine os(windows xp)
oracle also starts running automatically

i want to start it by myself how is it possible

may i know wht is the procedure.?????

Put the service in manual mode either using "Services" in "Control panel" or oradim.

You can also choose start->run then type services.msc

i know this but is there any other way other than this like in unix we make changes in some boot.inf file.

You could modify the registry, or you could you call "sc" from a executable.

C:\>sc
DESCRIPTION:
        SC is a command line program used for communicating with the
        NT Service Controller and services.

In this case, ORADIM is better than SC as its purpose is to manage Oracle instance.
