Hello All,

I've been trying to obtain and install a 32-bit 10g client on a Solaris Machine. I don't even know if I downloaded the proper files from the Oracle's Software Download portal.

I went to "Instant Client for Solaris Operating System (SPARC)(32 bit)" link under which i found several down-loadable zipped installer packages for Version 10.2.0.3. I downloaded two,
-Instant Client Package -Basic
-Instant Client Package -SQL*Plus

Following the installation instructions at the bottom of the same page, I unzipped both the packages in a dedicated directory in my Solaris machine. The following are the contents of that directory.

ojdbc14.jar

Now what should be my next step? How do I place the "TNS.ora" file like we used to do in Version 9i, since non of the above is a "directory" like "Network/Admin" - the ones we used to have? Sad

Any insight or direction in this regard would be much appreciated.

I selected Instant Client for Solaris x86

Where I arrive at http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/oci/instantclient/htdocs/solx86soft.html

which clearly & simply states:

Installation Steps:

1. Download the appropriate Instant Client packages for your platform. All installations REQUIRE the Basic package.

2. Unzip the packages into a single directory such as "instantclient".

3. Set the library loading path in your environment to the directory in Step 2 ("instantclient"). 
On many UNIX platforms, LD_LIBRARY_PATH is the appropriate environment variable. On Windows, PATH should be used.

4. Start your application and enjoy.

Hello Anacedent,

For me its not Solaris x86. Its SPARC. And I think I downloaded the right files and did follow the instruction at the bottom of the page.

My question is how did you set the connectivities? Where did you put the "TNS.ora" file? Specially when there are no directory like or similar to "Network/Admin" like it used to be in Versions 9i and below.

Any insight would be much appreciated.
