I have installed Forms 6i in my computer and trying to make a data block. But whenever I tried to connect to Database (Oracle 9i) the error ORA-12203: TNS:unable to connect to destination is displaying. I have developed application on VB.NET & Oracle 9i, but after installing Forms 6i the application developed on VB.NET also failed to connect to database (Oracle 9i). Pls help me. Sad

Searching this forum for 'tnsnames.ora' will show reference to 'tns_admin'. I suggest you search this forum for 'tns_admin' and follow these threads' directions.

Oracle
ORA-12203: TNS:unable to connect to destination

Cause: Invalid address specified or destination is not listening. This error can also occur because of underlying network or network transport problems.

Action: Verify that the net service name you entered was correct. Verify that the ADDRESS portion of the connect descriptor which corresponds to the net service name is correct. Ensure that the destination process (for example the listener) is running at the remote node.

So, this VB.NET application works fine until Forms 6i is installed? If so, where did you install Developer Suite 6i? Did you choose a different Oracle Home for it (i.e. directory different from Oracle 9i database's directory)? If not, you should have.

If you decide to reinstall Oracle products, install database first. Save LISTENER.ORA, TNSNAMES.ORA and SQLNET.ORA files to safe place before installing Developer Suite 6i (just in case, if its installation overwrites previously created files).

Please don't start a new thread for the same problem.

Get your database working and then use 'tns_admin' to point to THAT copy of 'tnsnames.ora'.
