I am having a similar problem. It appears that RMAN checks the file (backup piece) before deleting it, reading some bytes from the file. With our HSM solution this causes the entire file to fetched from tape, just to read those few bytes.

Is there a way to disable this checking so that RMAN just deletes the file without reading it?
Thanks,
Daniel
