This is the common fairy tale people insisting on incremental commit always come up with. If you don't have sufficient disk space *BUY* it. Disk is cheaper than your overtime!!!

Ora-1555 won't occur if you move the commit outside the loop: read the literature and stop worrying. Just search on ora-1555 on this forum on you will find a thread with all the gory details why you shouldn't commit in a loop.
