Been a long time since you've been in a university eh. Seemingly a very long time. ;-)

You couldn't be more incorrect if you were a politician. But practical experience must be gained using something. All the theory detailing the difference between a hash join, nested-loop join, merge join, etc. won't get you the result to a business problem.

The truth is we teach far too much theory and not nearly enough practical.
